Gay Games Closing Ceremony
by Gordon Lake
Like the Olympic Games, the Gay Games is held every 4 years in a different host country. These games were held in Chicago with over 12,000 athletes from around the world and more than 50,000 fans at the ceremonies.
One of my responsibilities was editing the closing ceremony and putting together packages for the DVD and various other media outlets.
While for the Opening ceremony we had a union crew with matched broadcast cameras, no such luck for the closing ceremony. We had to rely on footage from 8 cameras of various formats and quality that were shooting independently with priorities to different media outlets.
So when the box of more than 20 tapes arrived, I was shocked at how often the cameras were paused making it a nightmare to sync any two cameras up at any given point in the ceremony.
Below is the 13 minute edit of the Gay Games Closing Ceremony that made it onto the DVD.
