Gay Game Segments
As video becomes must-have content on major sites, much of the production work is farmed out. Here is a sampling of the 100 videos we produced during the Gay Games for PlanetOut.
Below is the coverage I did for the Marathon. Because the start and finish lines were at the same location I didn’t need extra cameras to cover the route. This also allowed me to identify several human interest stories after the race started and capture the participants when they crossed the finish line.
Below is a behind the scenes story on a famous choreographer who had to prep dancers from all over the world in just days to do Opening Ceremonies at Soldier Field (home field of the Chicago Bears).
During some down time at the Games I wondered into a room where Dance Sport dancers were practicing. I noticed two dancers having a spirited conversation so I asked for an interview which I felt could add a broader context to our coverage. It did.
While it’s cost effective for websites to farm out their video production work, you get much more bang for the buck during large events where 5 or more stories can be shot in a day under the same day rate would you have for a single story coverage.
It’s also a good idea to flat rate the story cost eliminating the need to supervise the amount of time spent on each piece.
